When Life Gives You Lemons...

(Journaled on September 2, 2011)

It may just be the size of your unborn child that week : )

We are 14 weeks today! According to the website that keeps track of the baby's growth and my pregnancy milestones, the baby is the size of a lemon. The site compares the baby to a fruit or a vegetable every week to give us an idea of how big he/she is. I like having the comparison, but I'm afraid I'm going to start dreaming about delivering a piece of produce here soon!

Here is what else the website has to say about baby's growth this week:
  • At 3.4 inches and 1.5 ounces, he/she is almost doubled in weight since last week and keeps on growing.
  • He/She is probably sucking his thumb and wiggling his/her toes in there!
  • His/her kidneys are making urine, and the liver and spleen are doing their jobs, too.
  • He/she is growing lanugo, a thin, peach-fuzz-like hair, all over his/her body -- it will help him/her keep warm!
I have been feeling really well every other day, and on the off days, I only feel mildy sick. That can be discouraging, though, especially coming off of a "good" day, but I just have to remember to pace myself, and rest! I stayed up utnil 11pm the other night watching "Dance Moms" (oy!) and was a mess the following day. The relaxin hormone has been working overtime lately, and I have felt pretty achy all over-- all of my joints hurt, especially my hips and lower back. But even my knuckles, my wrists, my neck, and my toes. Weird.

We have been sharing the news slowly but surely with everyone who should know. I got to tell my extended family in person last weekend, and that was really special. My aunts hugged me for the longest time, and everyone just hoot and hollered. I was a bit surprised because being the last of the married cousins to get pregnant, I thought babies would be old news by now but, they were just as excited for us as if this was the first baby to start the third generation of Felicianos. I was at church on Wednesday for dance rehearsal, and one of the first things our choreographer, whom I have not seen since like May, said to me was, "You are so skinny right now! Are you ok?! You're skinny!" My response, "oh my gosh, I love you! Are you kidding?! I'm 13 weeks pregnant right now!" And that's how she found out. Then yesterday, I was at PBA for supervision and went to say hello to one of my former, and favorite, professor. First thing he did when he saw me was give me a weird look and all I could say was, "do you know?!? How do you know, did David (my collegue) tell you?" He said no one told him, that it's "written" all over my face. That was a first!

This weekend is Labor Day weekend, and it will hopefully, literally be LABOR day weekend for one of my dearest friends, but certainly not for me. I hope to swim some, maybe even go for a walk. We plan on relaxing a ton, spending more time with family, and perhaps taking baby to his/her first movie outing.
